17 year lod guy developed linux based os
Assamese teenager Wrishiraj Kaushik has developed and released ‘SuperX 2.0′, an Ubuntu-based computer operating system to the likes of Microsoft Windows and Apple MAC OS.
During an interview with The Assam Tribune, the young developer claimed that his invention does not need any anti-virus software. Unlike other operating systems where the software developer controls the user through licensing agreements, his Super X is extremely user friendly and controlled by the users themselves as it is built with the classic 32 bit (x86) and the newer better 64 bit (x64) architectures with linux based KDE 4.10.2.
SuperX is designed with free and open-source software to work in conjunction with other operating systems. “It can automatically set up a system startup mode — dual boot or multi boot during installation — allowing the user to choose an OS at startup,” Wrishiraj said.
He started developing the SuperX in 2007 while still in high school and released the first public version of SuperX in 2011 and founded a firm called Libresoft Technology Pvt. Ltd. in his hometown Guwahati, to market the SuperX OS which is built with tested code bases, including Linux kernel, KDE, GNU tools, Debian and K desktop environment.
Over 29,887 laptops pre-installed with SuperX has been distributed by the Government of Assam to students via Anundoram Borooah Award Scheme (ARBAS) last month. Wrishiraj is also in the process of entering into a tie-up with Gauhati University for promoting SuperX besides translating various computer applications into Assamese.
